Knit using a different mix of our vintage yarns, all unique to wool decanted. Vintage 21 is a soft, strong and lustrous yarn, from the fibres from an award-winning British flock of Polwarth x Romney sheep in Northumberland. vintage 23, our latest blend, is made from the softest Polwarth, Romney and Black Shetland fibres. Worsted spun to the same specification, all yarns produce fabric that feels cosy and comforting against the skin.

Linda knitted this stunning design in our DK weight yarns and it turned out beautifully. The pattern is knitted from the brim up and worked in stranded colour work.

We’ve created yarn bundles that contain enough yarn for you to knit your version in your chosen size.

Size 1: 1 x 50gm skein [Col A], 1 x 50gm skein [Col B], 1 x 25gm skein [Col C]

Size 2 & 3: 1 x 50gm skein in each of the 3 colours

Our yarn bundles are available in 3 colour combinations:

The yellow bundle: Storm [Col A]; Lazy Hazy [Col B]; Natural Cream [Col C]

The green bundle: Storm [Col A]; River Thyme [Col B]; Natural Cream [Col C]

The red bundle: Storm [Col A]; Shepherd’s Delight [Col B]; Natural Cream [Col C]

If you want to knit your hat using a different colour combination just check the amount of yarn you need for your size and order it directly from the yarn pages

This pattern is published in Moon and Turtle: Knitting Patterns with Variations by PomPom magazine. Available here

Linda’s notes

“I love the mix of stripes and geometric pattern in this hat. And what I love the most is that I was never using more than two colours per round making what looks like a complex pattern relatively easy. Clever not complex – excellent! I must admit, though, that I didn’t manage the Tubular cast-on. That’s a technique I’ll have to master. I used a simple Longtail cast-on.

I knitted my project using the recommended needles – 3.25mm(US 3) and 3.75mm (US 5), 40cm/16” long circular needles.  I was able to get the gauge with our vintage 20 and 21 DK weight yarn, and I knitted the display hat in Size 1.

I think you’d really enjoy this project!”
